Online Indigenous Awareness Training

Online Training:

An Introduction to:

Indigenous Awareness

Many of us in Canada find ourselves at a loss in trying to understand the history and current events surrounding Indigenous Peoples here. Just because we find ourselves on the land doesn't mean we automatically understand the language, terms we hear, or ongoing history that continues to shape the reality for Indigenous Peoples and for ourselves. We cannot know what we were never taught.

Dynamic Horizons Innovative Relations (DHIR) and Ethree have joined forces to bring you an engaging and interactive online short course to raise your awareness of the history life and culture of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

Why Choose Us

01.

We aren’t judgy

Wherever you are in your learning journey, we are glad to have you here. Our goal is to support a more compassionate society for all. That means helping people have an understanding of both history and themselves. We invite you to examine any implicit biases you may have inherited, understanding that we all have biases as well as the ability to move past them.

02.

We get to the point

We don’t beat around the bush or sugar coat things. We speak plainly, conveying much (but not all) of the history that has been kept from Canadians. We give you access to that information, letting you move at your own pace as you are ready. We then provide additional links to extended information for those who are ready to learn more.

03.

We’re human

We didn’t hire a fancy voice actor to narrate, it’s just our president Danielle. Because guess what? She was a learner too. Our team is a mix of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people working together toward Reconciliation. Our course is informed both by what our Indigenous contributors want non-Indigenous people to know, and what our non-Indigenous contributors found helpful in their personal journeys. Compassion and understanding go both ways.

04.

We’re visual

We know that an online module isn’t the most exciting thing you’ll do today. While we’re not about to bust out the drummers and singers, we still want to make things appealing. That’s why we incorporate photos, videos, and colour to create an aesthetic experience. Like we said, we’re glad you’re here. We’d like you to be too.

Course Content

This course provides a foundational overview of what we mean when we say "Indigenous Peoples in Canada". It covers the history that most of us were never taught, and shows how that history is much more recent and much more relevant than many have been led to believe. We talk about the present, and the ongoing actions, learning, and conversations that need to be had for us all to move towards Reconciliation together.
